Thames TV
   Thames TV was formed in 1967 with the merger of ABC Television and Associated-Rediffusion, two ITV franchise holders, to create a new company to run the London weekday franchise. Until it lost its franchise to Carlton in 1993, Thames TV was the largest and wealthiest of the big five network broadcasters in the ITV system. With the loss of its franchise, Thames became the largest independent producer in Britain. It has also diversified into satellite broadcasting (for example, UK Gold). Thames, under its own name and subsidiaries, namely Euston films and Compton Hall, has a reputation for making quality historical dramas (Edward and Mrs Simpson), documentaries (The World at War series), action adventure series (The Sweeney) and comedy (The Benny Hill Show).
